Sharks in Hawaii attack scuba diver!

Do sharks attack scuba divers in Hawaii? A question often asked from our customers (especially after shark week on the discover channel). We also get many emails from companies with a variety of shark repealing devices. Yes, we see sharks on a daily basis, and yes, they are super quick in the water. I have seen one shark chasing another and in about one second, they traveled more than 20 feet. We have several types of sharks in Hawaii, Tiger sharks, Galapagos sharks, Hammerhead sharks, but frequently only encounter the white tip reef shark. In the last fifteen years of daily diving, I have only seen three tiger sharks in Hawaii, of fairly good size 10-12 feet. All the sharks we encounter generally swim away from us, I believe it is the noise from the bubbles as underwater it is quite noisy. A funny story, one company came on charter with us to video tape their shark-repealing device in action. Well… after several attempts with there machine and the time underwater wasting, I had to nudge the shark to get him to move, so much for the device! Nothing a little quick video editing cant fix I guess! So in answer to the questions of shark attacking scuba divers in Hawaii, definitely not!

I wasn't aware that sharks were a concern in Hawaii. I'm not a swimmer but my hubby has never mentioned ever having seen them in the ocean there. I guess there are just a few. Hmmm .. even one would be one too many!
